Meeting India for the First Time
Agra & Jaipur, India — Najwa and Jonathan arrived in India the way rivers reach the sea. Full of somewhere and some place else, not knowing the shapes they were about to take. We watched Agra unfold like a hand slowly opening and witnessed Jaipur cloth itself in its pink secret. It was their first time in these places and I got to walk with them through it all. The streets welcomed them like a party they didn’t expect to be invited to and the monuments watched over them uncovering each wisdom and surprise. In these moments, I am photographing how something so foreign settles into warm memory. I recall how a country quietly lets some strangers in.
