Experiencing Art
in the Setouchi Islands

Naoshima & Teshima, Japan — For Julia and Jonathan, the Setouchi Art Islands of Naoshima and Teshima greeted them like curators of a museum. Each building and exhibition a portal into worlds of philosophy, beauty and curiosity. Between the corridors, light and shadow unveiled the magnificence of each artwork. It felt like we were listening to the whisperings of Claude Monet and Hiroshi Sugimoto themselves. I watched them stand in front of art that asked for nothing but attention, and give it. In these photographs, there is a specific language of two people falling into rhythm with a beautiful place.
