The People We Come From
Singapore — I begin by first disclaiming that I don’t do photo sessions in Singapore except for tourists who are visiting. This family session I did is for some of my oldest and dearest friends, Syam and Felicia. I’ve known them long enough that they know not to perform for the camera, which is the only way I ever really see anyone. Their world runs on the clocks of their older son Mikhail, who is stretching toward independence, and the younger one, Rafael, who is still learning of the world’s edges. Between them is a mother who feels the guilt of having work pull her away from her children, and a father who makes his devotion almost invisible simply by how consistently he shows up. Both of them know how to love their children and I am so proud to call them my friends.
